Is it a good match?

Recruitment works best when candidates and employers understand what they are choosing together.

Hiring is a partnership. Relevant qualifications matter, but so do conditions that allow the employer and employee to develop, contribute and work well together.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate competence and present themselves effectively. Employers should examine their own contribution to the conversation too. What impression do you leave? Can you explain what working there is actually like?

Be clear about the reality

Avoid promises the working environment cannot support. Offering extensive flexibility while maintaining rigid arrangements can quickly create disappointment.

Explain the responsibilities, challenges, expectations and support available. Also describe what is distinctive and valuable about the organisation, such as development opportunities or ways of working.

A two-way process lets candidates understand you while you understand them. This supports a more informed choice about staying and contributing over time.

Look beyond an impressive CV

A capable person may still find a particular role or environment unsuitable. Misaligned expectations can lead to low motivation, turnover and lost resources.

This is not a reason to hire only people who resemble the existing team. It is a reason to discuss working preferences, values relevant to the work and the reality of the role honestly.

Ask yourself:

  • Are our ways of working compatible with what the candidate needs to succeed?
  • Will the daily work provide appropriate challenge and development?
  • Are our expectations of the person realistic?

Build a sustainable working relationship

TEAM NORSO Selection connects recruitment with leadership, culture and team development. We help clarify the actual workplace, communicate it honestly and assess candidates who can contribute and develop within it.

The aim is more than filling a vacancy. It is bringing a colleague into a team in a way that creates value for both sides.
